ISTAP in action at the ASCN UK - WCET® Joint Congress in Glasgow, Scotland

ISTAP was honoured to attend the Association of Stoma Care Nurses (ASCN UK) and World Council of Enterostomal Therapists (WCET®) Joint Congress held from September 28 to October 1, 2024, at the Scottish Event Campus (SEC) in Glasgow, Scotland. The congress revolved around the theme: “Weaving Culture & Expertise to Offer the Best Patient Care,” which resonated deeply with healthcare professionals dedicated to enhancing the lives of those with stoma, wound, and continence needs.

A Platform for Innovation and Collaboration

This year's event provided a unique opportunity for healthcare professionals to explore innovative approaches to stoma and wound management, all aimed at further enhancing patient care. Attendees had the chance to connect with some of the most influential global leaders in the field, fostering collaboration and sharing best practices.

ISTAP's Presence and Contributions

ISTAP is proud to be an International Official Partner of WCET®, and their President, Laurent Chabal, took a moment to stop by ISTAP's booth during the congress.

A highlight of our participation was the presentation by Cinthia Viana Bandeira Da Silva, RN, ETN, MSc, PhD Candidate, who serves as ISTAP's Regional Director for Latin America (Portuguese). Cinthia delivered an insightful presentation titled “Nurses' Knowledge about Skin Tears: An Exploratory Study,” which sparked important discussions around improving clinical practices. Cinthia was photographed alongside Prof. Dimitri Beeckman, Past President of ISTAP, capturing a moment of shared commitment to advancing skin tear education globally.

Engaging with Attendees

ISTAP's booth in the Congress Exhibit Hall attracted many visitors, including ISTAP President-Elect Dr. Ray Samuriwo and Past President Samantha Holloway. We were delighted to connect with NSWOCC Chief Executive Officer Cathy Harley, NSWOCC WOC Institute Academic Chair and ISTAP co-founder Dr. Kimberly LeBlanc, and many other ISTAP colleagues and members. We were also pleased to see Past ISTAP Regional Director for Latin America, Heidi Marie Hevia Campos, in attendance. Jenny Prentice, PhD, RN, Stomal Therapy Nurse and ISTAP Regional Director for Australia also attended and participated. She is photographed in the gallery below with Samatha at the ISTAP booth, highlighting the importance of a unified approach to patient care across borders.
